LEARNING OBJECTIVE(S):
Following this lesson the student will understand ...

  1. how rainwater soaks into the soil and moves to underground spaces.
  2. how rainstorms and drought increase and decrease the level of the "water table".
  3. how underground drinking wells use this ground water.
  4. how ground water and drinking water can become polluted by substances on the surface.
  5. how septic systems can pollute a nearby drinking well.
  6. how many drinking wells can increase the depletion of groundwater.

TEACHER'S DIRECTIONS:

The Northern Rhode Island Conservation District owns a Groundwater Model and can come to the school and give your students this lesson.
